I’m sitting in front of my John Deere tractor because brand recognition is the number one reason people tell me they want to invest in a franchise. John Deere tractors have a long-standing track record of fantastic quality and durability. Many people don’t realize that it came from the hardship of the Great Depression. The leadership at the time of John Deere tractor knew that they needed to invest into that downturn by offering their customers free parts and services to help them through the recession in order to maintain their customer base. Over 100 years later, John Deere tractor is known as an iconic brand in the farming community.
So, How does that relate to franchising?
Well, you want a franchise with excellent brand recognition, but you also want a business located in a great community in your market. You don’t want to have to wait a hundred years to have both; a great location and great brand recognition.
I had the opportunity several years ago to work with the great-grandson of the Anheuser-Busch distributor for the Greater Atlanta market. That’s a pretty good franchise to own, yet I was talking to the great-grandson.
The point of this is that if you want a brand with excellent brand recognition, you’ll want to focus on:
- Being first to market; in your market.
- A leadership team that has a vision and direction for where they want to go with our customers are going to need and want in the future; and
- Joining that team early in the process means you have a pioneering franchise owner mindset.
Everybody wants a great brand in a great market. If you’re reading this and contemplating business ownership, you are probably already living in the market where you want to put your next franchise. My guess is that is probably a solid market within the city where you live.
Brand recognition is highly important, but it’s a result of outstanding leadership, a strong vision, and location is important.
